There’s so many towns in Kuala Lumpur and throughout Malaysia that is being dubbed as ‘Little India’. Mainly because it’s population consist of Indians as majority. They will have their township, culture and all similar to what you find in India… I suppose. The streets are lined with an array of goods that will capture anyone’s eye – from colourful sarees to jewellery, food to fabrics. Yes, indeed… colourful!
This one I went to has been inaugurated by Malaysian Prime Minister in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh of the Republic of India. Brickfields, (the original name) is one of the oldest Indian settlements in the country but the two major communities; the Malays and the Chinese do share space with them. Ever since the make-over, I never had chances to even pass-by “Little India” till recent. However, I only managed a drive through quite late on the way back from Kuala Lumpur. Most of the shops are already closed and traffic was free flowing.
Brightly lit with blue as its theme colour. Lovely. With tiny light bulbs hanging from the trees and the exotic looking lamp post. A lot of changes to what was once ‘a congested and smelly neighbourhood’ as someone put it.
The photo on the left is the feet of the gateway I snapped and at the bottom are the ongoing development. Value of the land here has already shot up so much.
It is now a one way street (which I believe should ease traffic a lot) but the unruly parking that they are so used to… hmmm… I need to see to know.
That’s the night view of “Little India”. Maybe I will do a day trip one of these days…
