it’s free. No fees but the instructor has a box where those participating can put in any amount as donation so he can buy batteries for the CD player. Fun to join.

Taman Jaya

DSC_2979 ‘Taman’ in my bilingual dictionary says garden. Taman Jaya is actually a park. A park is a protected area, in its natural or semi-natural state, or planted, and set aside for human recreation and enjoyment, or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats. It may consist of rocks, soil, water, flora and fauna and grass areas. Many parks are legally protected by law. (extracted from Wikipedia)DSC_2916

Back to my story, this is one park that is so close but I hardly frequent. Lazy me! But I made it this morning and while doing the fast walk, I still managed to photograph what I wanted! Mad huh?

It is situated right in the middle of town. Makes it easier for those health enthusiast to come and do their workouts anytime or day. It’s facilities covers any age group and it’s really fun to spend time here. I used to come and do our group study back in high school before exams. Truly a relaxing place to be. Not forgetting the ‘rojak buah’ which is something that we would surely have while doing our revision work. It’s just a variety of fruits, cut up and served with this homemade sauce.

I was standing in front of one of the most historic building in this country. The Sultan Abdul Samad building. Click on that link and you will read the history. Google that and you will find many more write-ups on it.

I am just posting up the photos which made my heart bloat with pride… awesome!

places of worship ~ Buddhist wat

Strictly speaking a ‘wat’ is a Buddhist sacred precinct with monks' quarters, the temple proper, an edifice housing a large image of Buddha, and a structure for lessons. A Buddhist site without a minimum of three resident monks cannot correctly be described as a wat, although the term is frequently used more loosely, even for ruins of ancient temples. (As a transitive or intransitive verb, wat means to measure, to take measurements; compare templum, from which temple derives, having the same root as template.) ~ Wikipedia

This one we went to, self pronounce themselves as a temple. I have seen bigger ones, one that qualify as a ‘wat’. I also believe this one has all the elements that categorize themselves as a ‘wat’ but maybe temple is easier defined. Let’s go in!

lilies are always linked to this religion…

DSC_1694That was the last of six places of worship we went to. The tour was completed within three and half hours. We all then went back to where we started because we went in two vehicles and stopped for a quickie at one of the restaurants across the road to sort of sum it all up.

We were given a book each; titled ‘Kathakali’ by Mr. Uthaya Sankar the writer himself! He is also the man behind this excursion, who has taken the trouble to organize and arrange the trip. Lovely gift to mark the event. Thank you.

places of worship ~ a mosque

Overwhelming! The different ‘house of God’ as some would put it… we then took a round-a-bout turn and headed back on the other side of the road. Less than ten minutes drive from the temple, we reach the Al-Hidayah Mosque which was on the main road heading towards city centre.

It doesn’t look very big from outside but once inside, I found the main structure has three storey. Probably to house as many people possible during Eid namaz. Impressive!

One of the participant is a student of Islamic studies in our oldest and prestigious University Malaya. He went about explaining the function of a Masjid to the Islamic community to those present.

That is done… next stop ~ Buddhist temple. Follow me!!

places of worship ~ Chinese temple

Situated on the same stretch of road as the St. Joseph Catholic Church, after 10 minutes drive (without heavy traffic) we reach the Chinese temple. I found it’s address in the web as Chinese Temple Jalan 46/10, 56000 Kuala Lumpur, Sentul.

Therefore, I can’t explain more. However, like any other Chinese temples, we will find the usage of beautiful colours throughout the vicinity.

Very attractive isn’t it? We walked in and notice that it is just a small temple. The rest of the area are also used for the different festivals and mode of celebrating it or it’s rituals. We went straight to the main building and found a lady who is in the midst of her ritual. Not long after, an old man came out from the adjoining building to watch over us. He only smiled but not explain anything, probably due to language.

places of worship ~ Catholic Church

from the Gurdwara we moved on to a church… it is situated along Jalan Sentul (walking would take maybe 10 minutes from the Sikh temple)

it is called the St. Joseph's church. A very simple building and nothing fancy in it. No one was around to greet us and explain things like the earlier place visited. So, we found our way in as the organizers did already seek permission much earlier. We were there not to create problem anyway. Just a group of peaceful people seeking knowledge.
